Three day clinic topics include improving and advancing horsemanship, learning and practicing two different packing systems, developing Leave No Trace camping techniques and strengthening wilderness skills and ethics.

Situations commonly encountered while trail riding and camping with stock will be coordinated in a controlled environment. The goal is to desensitize the animal to experiences such as a rope under its tail, passing hikers, tarps fluttering in the wind, etc. Emphasis will be placed on preparing the animal to hobble and picket.

The two most common types of packing systems, the Decker and Sawbuck systems, will be explained. The two systems will be compared and contrasted with discussions on the advantages and disadvantages of each. Required equipment, cost and maintenance will be reviewed also.

BYOH Outfitters not only conducts clinics at our facility in Mimbres, NM, but we also travel throughout the country. Typically we offer 3-day horsemanship clinics, 6- and 10-day clinic/packtrip combinations as well as scenic Summer trips.

Please view our clinic schedule for 2004 dates.
