The Gila National Forest

Established in 1924 as the first designated wilderness in the country and located in southwest New Mexico, the Gila National Forest is still one of the largest and most eclectic forests in the United States. From majestic Spruce and Ponderosa Pine covered mountains rising almost 11,000 ft. above sea-level, to semi-desert country, the Gila National Forest is an outdoorsman's heaven. Bring your own horse and let BYOH Outfitters show you the way life used to be in the wilderness. The pictures below show only a small portion of what is waiting to be explored. These pictures don't do justice to the splendor of the Gila National Forest. You just have to come see it for yourself. Enjoy!

Gila offers opportunities to view many different species of wildlife.

What a spectacular view! Imagine views like this as far as the eye can see. This valley is also located near the West Fork Gila in the Gila National Forest.

I'll bet you won't hear a car horn, police siren... or anything for that matter, as you take in this beautiful panorama. Well... you might hear your heart beating, or the wind blowing through the pine trees.

If you close your eyes, you can almost see American Indians taking cover from inclement weather in these large caves known as Three Mile Dwelling. But then why would you want to close your eyes?
